Harnessing the True Power of Social Media in Marketing

I know I don’t need to tell you that social media are playing an increasingly important role in business (B2B as well as B2C), culture and society overall. If, like me, you are involved in revenue creation and/or brand and reputation building (marketing, sales, PR, brand management, corporate communications, etc.), you are probably trying to figure out how best to capitalize on the social media channel to generate bottom-line results for your company/brand.

To drive these key goals, a new function called “social media marketing” has emerged recently. Here is my definition:

Social media marketing (SMM) is the emerging business function that uses social channels and networks to engage consumers and customers.

Paralleling the emergence of this new marketing methodology has been the development of a range of SMM solutions to help organizations of every size and type maximize their social media marketing and communications activities. But, as with most new categories, I have found there to be a lack of understanding and clarity about the growing array of SMM solutions and the vendors who provide them.

To help solve that confusion, I wrote the SMM “Solution Evaluation and Selection Guide.” It is a practical, easy-to-use and totally objective (no specific vendors are named nor recommended), document that I hope you will find useful in discovering, evaluating and ultimately buying the SMM solution that’s right for your organization.
